Plot[]
Neurosurgeon/Rock Star/Scientist Buckaroo Banzai has perfected the OSCILLATION OVERTHRUSTER, which allows him to travel through solid matter by using the eighth dimension. The Red Lectroids from Planet 10 are after this device for their own evil ends. It's up to Buckaroo and his band and crime-fighting team, The Hong Kong Cavaliers, to stop them.

- There is an alternative beginning that shows explosion of a Jet Car that killed Buckaroo's parents in the fifties. This sequence, narrated by Rawhide, is the only place in movie besides deleted scenes that mentions Hanoi Xan.
- Credits list Roberto Terminelli as John Lithgow's dialect coach. Roberto Terminelli was a tailor/costume designer, whose heavy accent was copied by Lithgow for all Lizardo's lines.
